Momentum For Possible Gay Marriage Vote Builds in Illinois

Suspense is building for a possible vote on legislation that could make Illinois the next state to legalize same-sex marriage.

Another lawmaker on the fence expressed support in a newspaper opinion piece Tuesday. Democratic state Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth says she believes it's a matter of equality.

Lawmakers return to Springfield on Tuesday.

Advocates say that momentum is building for a same-sex marriage vote, particularly with lobbying by House Speaker Michael Madigan. The Chicago Sun-Times reports (http://bit.ly/17IVb3b) the Chicago Democrat spoke with at least two undecided Democrats on the issue: state Reps. Thaddeus Jones and John D'Amico.

A bill allowing gay marriage passed the Senate, but wasn't called for a House vote earlier in the year. The House sponsor said he didn't have the votes then.
