The Tudors - The Final Season

Jim Halterman READ TIME: 2 MIN.

It's the final chapter in the historical saga The Tudors, which comes to DVD with the captivating story of King Henry VIII and how his reign as King ends.

First, the undeniably sexy Jonathan Rhys Meyers has brought not only his sexy appeal to the role of the much-married King but also showed what a tremendous, capable actor he is in the right role. In Henry, we've seen the human side of him with his complicated love life as well as playing a leader of a land and all the political intrigue and complications that come with that role.

In the final installment of the series, written entirely by Executive Producer/Creator Michael Hirst, Henry is still desperate to produce an heir to the throne and marries his sixth and final wife, Catherine Parr (played by Joely Richardson).

While the story of Henry VIII losing his power drives much of the final episodes, Henry, having aged throughout the series, also reflects on his long, often tumultuous life and Henry is visited by his former wives in dreams, which causes him to finally reflect on some of his darker decisions in his life. Seeing long-missed actors like Natalie Dormer (who played Anne Boelyn) reappear in the final episode of the series is a great reward for those who have missed her since her character was killed off in the second season.

The DVD release of the series comes with access to web interviews with cast members Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Annabelle Wallis, Henry Cavill, Joss Stone and Max Von Sydow who discuss their roles and the show as a whole.

The DVD set also includes episodes of other popular Showtime series Dexter, The United States of Tara and Californication.
