Gus Kenworthy Flipping Loves Sydney
Andrea Marks Joseph READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Gus Kenworthy "flipping loves" Sydney, Australia.
We know this because he says so in the Instagram caption of this post – a caption which, he admits apologetically, his boyfriend suggested. With the cobalt blue oceans and breathtaking skyline on the horizon, it's easy to imagine falling in love with the city at first sight. To understand the "flipping" part, you need only scroll to the second slide on this carousel post, where Kenworthy casually positions himself at the edge of a cliff and performs backflips into the ocean – much to the surprise and delight of the crowd cheering as they wait for their turn to jump from the same rock.
Though diving wasn't Kenworthy's sport at the Olympics, there's an undeniable confidence in his body's capabilities, reflected in the way he throws himself off that rock again, this time doing multiple twists in sideways somersaults before crashing into the ocean. It's very much giving "superhuman power that only someone whose body has taken them to Olympic podiums would be nonchalant about."
It's clear to everyone enthusiastically cheering him on (whether on those rocks or watching him on our phones) that the hot, out athlete is still that same daring silver medalist chasing an adrenaline rush and the sizzling magic of achieving something shocking and impressive –and having some flippin' fun! – at every turn. (Kenworthy later does a backflip with a run-up where you can hear his shoes squeak on the wet rock and can't help but physically cringe in anticipation of a slip, but of course we had no reason to worry.) The fifth slide on this post is a fantastic display of his six-possibly-eight-pack, Kenworthy soaking in the blazing Australian sun with his head slipped through a hole worn into a rock.
Scroll down for some more hot photos of the well-traveled, adventure-seeking Olympic silver medalist and his stand-out abs, arms, and happy trail – all of which he (thankfully!) loves to show off.
