Watch the 1st Trailer for LGBTQ Rights Miniseries 'When We Rise'

Guy Pearce. Mary-Louse Parker. Rosie O'Donnell. Dylan Walsh. Whoopi Goldberg. Rob Reiner. Phylicia Rashad. Michael K. Williams.

These are just some of the names involved in the upcoming epic ABC miniseries "When We Rise," which "chronicles the personal and political struggles, set-backs and triumphs of a diverse family of LGBT people who helped pioneer an offshoot of the Civil Rights Movement from its turbulent infancy in the 20th century to the once unfathomable successes of today."

ABC released the first taste of "When We Rise" Sunday, with a two-minute trailer.

The series was created by Oscar-winning and openly gay screenwriter Dustin Lance Black ("Milk"), who penned all seven episodes. Out director Gus Van Sant will direct the first two-hour episode. Dee Rees will direct episodes two and three and Thomas Schlamme will helm episodes four and five. Black will direct the last two episodes.

"When We Rise," which will air sometime in February, aims to tell the history of the gay rights movement, starting with the Stonewall riots in 1969.
