Season 2 of Amazon Studio's critically acclaimed dramedy "Transparent" has yet to air, but the network has already renewed the series for a third season, which is expected to hit the streaming service Amazon Prime in 2016, Variety reports.
"Transparent," which is about a Californian family dealing with a transgender parent coming out to her family, picked up a Golden Globe in 2015 for best comedy series and star Jeffrey Tambor won a Golden Globe for best actor for his portrayal of Maura Pfefferman.
Showrunner Jilly Soloway will exclusively develop the show for Amazon Prime and Andrea Sperling, who served as the show's co-executive producer, will now be exec producer.
"Jill is truly a creative force and I'm thrilled that we will be collaborating with her additional projects in the future and on a third season of Transparent," Amazon Studios VP Roy Price said. "The second season is currently starting production, and I know our customers will be delighted to continue the journey with Maura and the Pfefferman family."
"Transparent" was picked up for a second season in October last year but Amazon has yet to announce a premiere date. A rep for the show told Variety Season 3 will most likely have 10 episodes like the other two seasons.
Soloway recently said that Caitlyn Jenner's coming out as a transgender woman would impact the second season.
