Fashion Forward: Diary Sketches by Laura Kay
Matthew Wexler READ TIME: 2 MIN.
The fashions we see on the runway begin in the creative minds of those who design them, and often this starts with an artist's rendering. For those seeking an art piece inspired by the latest trends, Diary Sketches offers a unique way to showcase your style. It is a passion project that turned into a full-time job for brand founder and artist Laura Kay. Combining the worlds of fashion, art and illustration, Diary Sketches delivers custom fashion illustrations, portraits, art prints, cell phone cases and more for dedicated followers of fashion around the world.
Inspired by the who's who and hottest trends in the fashion industry, Diary Sketches have caught the eyes of some of the biggest names in the business. Over the years, top designers, brands and influencers including Lord & Taylor, Chicos, Alice + Olivia, Kim Kardashian and The Blonde Salad's Chiara Ferragni have sought out Kay's custom fashion illustrations for seasonal campaigns, lookbooks, personal projects and more.
Designer runway collections, award show red carpet looks and every day street style ensembles are displayed through Kay's pre-sketched art prints. She is also capable of capturing your likeness with one of Diary Sketches' custom portraits, which fit any occasion from a Valentine's Day gift to baby shower invitations.
For Laura Kay, it was never a matter of if she would become a fashion illustrator, but rather when. Spending much of her time flipping through fashion magazines and catalogs, Kay would draw, dream and create the clothing and designs she saw on their pages. Her girlhood dreams turned into a reality when she opened her Diary Sketches shop in August 2012. "My self expression is through my art, it was my diary, hence the name Diary Sketches was born," says Kay. "I truly hope to inspire and delight with my fun fashion illustrations and make the world a more colorful place."
