As flu season approaches, Passport Health is looking out for your health with FluFree.com. The website aims to increase awareness of the dangers of influenza and assist families, individuals and companies in protecting themselves against the perils of the flu.

"We all know the flu is miserable, but not everyone who has access to the flu vaccine gets it," said Kara Anderson, Director of Community Development for Passport Health. "FluFree's mission is to educate people on just how serious the flu is, and to promote awareness and accessibility to flu vaccine."

According to CDC estimates, influenza afflicts up to 20 percent of the U.S. population each year and kills as many as 26,000 people annually. The National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases reports that every year flu related costs create an $87.1 billion burden on the economy. A single flu illness can cost up to $4,500 in lost productivity and medical bills.

Despite this, 60 percent of adults don't receive a flu shot. Instead of an estimated $47 per vaccination, they face missed wages and/or work for an average of five days year, or about 111 million total lost workdays each year in the U.S.

FluFree.com contains information on flu vaccinations, tips for business on how they can run successful flu clinics, important information on vaccine safety and much more.

"In the midst of a hectic work and family life, taking time to take care of your health can be a challenge. That's why making the flu vaccine not just accessible, but simple and easy, is our No. 1 priority," they write on the website. "FluFree builds on that platform with flu vaccination posters, videos, and a game-plan designed to bolster participation in flu immunization events."

Whether you want the simple seasonal flu shot, a needle-free option or an egg-free vaccine, there is a flu shot for you, including the Trivalent and Quadrivalent flu shots, a nasal spray flu vaccine, preservative-free flu shots, cell-based, egg-free flu shots or high-dose flu shots.

The site notes that vaccines are among the most successful public health tools for preventing disease and death, but they rely on a critical portion of the community getting immunized. The more the rest of us get vaccinated, the more protection there is for those who are not eligible for certain vaccines -- like infants, pregnant women and immunocompromised individuals -- under 'herd immunity' protection.
