DTF :: Tim Daly to Star in "Red"

Dorset Theatre Festival opens its 39th Season with its production of "Red" by John Logan, known for his Academy Award-winning screenplays for "Gladiator" and "Any Given Sunday." "Red" is a play about renowned artist Mark Rothko at the peak of his career. It captures the dynamic relationship between an artist and his creations. "The play asks audiences an important question: What do you see when you look at a work of art? What is art? Who gets to decide anyway?" explains Dina Janis, DTF's Artistic Director.

The role of Mark Rothko will be played by Emmy Award winning actor and political activist Tim Daly. Tim is a veteran of Broadway and Off Broadway, as well as being known for his work on television and film, including the popular shows "Wings" and "Private Practice," having won his Emmy for his recurring role on "The Sopranos." Currently, he co-stars with Tea Leoni in the upcoming series "Madame Secretary" written by "Homeland"'s Barbara Hall and produced by Morgan Freeman among others.

The role of his assistant Ken is played by Charles Socarides. Charles is a renowned stage actor from NY where he has appeared extensively, including in "Sons of the Prophets" and "The Marriage of Bette and Boo," both at The Roundabout Theatre. He will appear soon in three Indie Films: "In Lieu of Flowers," "Bad Hurt" and "Nebraska Horizon."

The production will be helmed by Adrienne Campbell-Holt, known to regional audiences for her hit production at DTF of Theresa Rebeck's play "The Scene" last summer. Adrienne is the Artistic Director of the famous NY theatre Colt Couer and recently directed the World Premiere of Greg Moss' "Reunion" at South Coast Rep. Next up, she will direct "Dry Land" at NY Stage and Film.

Finishing up the production team will be Michael Giannitti-Lighting Design, John McDermott-Scenery, Charles Schoonmaker-Costumes, and M.L. Dogg-Sound Design.
