David Schwimmer Helps NYPD in Stabbing Incident

Maybe David Schwimmer should star as Hercule Poirot if there is ever a reboot of the classic Agatha Christie detective series.

The "Friends" star is making headlines this morning after helping the New York Police Department in a strange stabbing case involving his neighbor, a robber and a transgender prostitute, the British newspaper the Mirror reports.

The incident, which happened Monday morning, occurred next door to his $4 million New York home and Schwimmer helped police out by allowing investigators to take a look at footage captured by his security cameras.

Police found Schwimmer's cameras picked up the end of an altercation between his male neighbor, a transgender prostitute and Robert Rainey, 21, who police say is a suspect in the case. Rainey allegedly broke into the neighbor's home and attempted to steal a laptop while the neighbor was having sex with the prostitute in the bathroom, which adjoins Swchimmwer's apartment.

The incident escalated, however, as the neighbor chased Rainey, wielding a box cutter, out of the apartment. Rainey was able to get the box cutter out of the neighbor's hand and slashed the man across the face.

"It started inside and spilled out into the street. There was blood everywhere," a witness said according to the New York Daily News. Another claimed that they heard the victim shout, "He sliced me up!"

The Mirror notes the incident may be taking an unexpected twist -- the prostitute may have been working with Rainey and may have pepper sprayed the victim before fleeing.

Police noticed Schwimmer's cameras and the actor, best know for playing Ross Gellar on the mega-popular sitcom "Friends," was happy to give NYPD access to the film.

Rainey was detained and charged with robbery, assault and criminal position of stolen property.
