Tig Notaro Present Live Comedy Benefit for Trans Youth Speak

On April 1, at the historic Wiltern Theater, an amazing lineup of comedy icons will come together for Krullapalooza, a live event to support Survivors' Truths and the efforts of TransYouth Speak. Hosted by transgender comedian, Ian Harvie, the night will feature Grammy nominated comedian Tig Notaro, with Zach Galifianakis, Grammy Nominee Patton Oswalt, Andy Kaufman, musician/comedian Reggie Watts and a very special guest.

"This program is so important," said community activist and trans advocate Annabel Agustin. "Transgender teens need a safe space to talk about things, things that they usually can't talk about with their family and friends... There are not a lot of places like that in Los Angeles."

TransYouth Speak, a project of LA-based nonprofit Survivors' Truths, is an innovative social support project that helps transgender and gender-queer youth build media and advocacy skills to better connect with allies and inspire social change.

The initiative aims to bring out the voices of the youth by helping them create short films and media to disseminate stories and messages that challenge negative stereotypes. Through art and activism, the members of TransYouth Speak inform the public about the challenges they face and propose positive avenues for action and advocacy.

The group is youth-driven with media-savvy therapist facilitators to support participants in developing personally while honing their media and advocacy skills.

"Survivors' Truths works with groups affected by violence and discrimination to help them tell their stories in ways that challenge stereotypes, inspire others, and promote positive social change. TransYouth Speaks seeks to address the intense discrimination and threats of violence faced by transgender youth every day, said Dove Pressnall, the organization's founder and executive. "When youth tell their own stories, others can see the reality - that they are just like other youth, needing support, mentorship and space to learn and grow."

Krullapalooza 2014 is the first annual fundraiser to honor the memory of Suzanne Krull, with 100% of the profits from the event going to the selected charity.
