NJ Waitress Receives Anti-Gay Note in Lieu of Tip

A waitress working in a New Jersey restaurant says a family left her an anti-gay note, condemning her "gay lifestyle," on the bill for their meal in lieu of a tip Gay Star News reports.

Dayna Morales, who previously served in the U.S. Marine Corps before working as a server at Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, N.J., fired off an email to the LGBT blog Have A Gay Day and explained what happened to her.

She says that when she introduced herself to the family, consisting of two parents and two children, the mother was shocked by Morales' short hair.

"Oh I thought you were gonna say your name is Dan," she allegedly said. "You sure surprised us!"

The family's bill came to $93.55 but instead of giving a proper tip, the family left a note on the receipt, which reads, "I'm sorry but I cannot tip because I don't agree with your lifestyle & how you live your life."

Morales recounted the incident to Have A Gay Day, who posted her email on the blog's Facebook page.

"NEVER in a million years did I think this would happen," she wrote to Have A Gay Day. "Not only was it a family with two kids, but as I introduce myself and tell them my name is Dayna - the mom proceeds to look at me and say 'oh I thought you were gonna say your name is Dan. You sure surprised us!'

I am THOROUGHLY offended mad pissed off and hurt that THIS is what her kids will grow up learning and that I served in the Marines to keep ignorant people like them free," she wrote to the blog. "Sorry lady but I don't agree with YOUR lifestyle and the way you're raising your kids but you didn't see me throwing that in your face and giving you shitty service. Keep your damn mouth shut and pray we never cross paths again."

As of this writing the post has 3,819 likes, 10,049 shares and several comments of users offering Morales support.

"As a member of the heterosexual community, I beg your forgiveness for these ignorant people," one person wrote. "Yet they had no problem eating food served by your GAY hands," another Facebook commenter said.

"It's a shame that her "moral compass" didn't also extend to not being able to accept your service, so that you could use that time waiting on another table, and she could tip, which is the appropriate thing to do when you receive service from a person in a service industry," another wrote.

Morales replied to the thread to thank the Facebook users for their kind words and support.

"Thanks everyone for your support - it took every fiber of my being not to spit in their food and say something. (Not gonna lie if kids weren't there it would of been a totally different story)," she wrote. The comment has over 500 likes.

Morales' case mirrors an incident that occurred in October when a gay waiter from Kansas said a customer stiffed him a tip and left an anti-gay message.

"Thank you for your service, it was excellent. That being said, we cannot in good conscience tip you, for your homosexual lifestyle is an affront to GOD. Fags do not share in the wealth of GOD, and you will not share in ours," the note reads. "We hope you will see the tip your faggot choices made you lose out on, and plan accordingly. It is never too late for GOD's love, but none shall be spared for fags. May GOD have mercy on you."
