Same-Sex Couples Want to Drop Ark. Governor, AG in Suit

Lawyers for a group of same-sex couples seeking to overturn Arkansas' ban on gay marriage want to drop the state's governor and attorney general from a lawsuit.

Attorneys for the couples filed a notice of dismissal Thursday in Pulaski County Circuit Court.

That notice says the plaintiffs dismiss Gov. Mike Beebe and Attorney General Dustin McDaniel from the lawsuit. They're asking the court to issue an order making it official.

Jack Wagoner is one of the attorneys for the couples and says they don't need to sue Beebe and McDaniel to get a review of the law before the state Supreme Court.

Their lawsuit seeks to strike down a constitutional amendment voters approved in 2004 that defines marriage as between a man and a woman.
