Anti-Gay Protesters Enjoy a Day at HRC's Headquarters

It was a veritable "Hateapalooza" yesterday in Washington D.C. as some of the biggest acts of the anti-gay Christian right assembled in front of the headquarters of the Human Rights Campaign for a press conference aimed to express objections to Gay Pride Month. A crowd numbering in the tens gathered to enjoy the weather and revel in familiar rhetoric.

The event was first announced in a press release sent by Christian Newswire.

"Several Christian and pro-family organizations, along with individuals who have left the homosexual life style [sic], will hold a news conference in front of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) building (1640 Rhode Island Ave., NW, Washington, D.C.) at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, to express their objections to celebrating homosexual 'pride' in June, during the so-called 'Gay Pride Month.' Spokesmen are also expected to lambaste the HRC for their role in receiving and using confidential financial records from the IRS that were used to denounce traditional marriage."

Headlining the the all-star line up was none other than Peter (AKA "Porno Pete") LaBarbera of the Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, who debuted his new single "What's wrong with 'gay pride?'" Also appearing on the bill was filmmaker Eric Holmberg, performing "Is Gay the New Black?" and Diane Gramley of the American Family Association with her hit, "the ongoing homosexual health crisis."

Radio host Linda Harvey and Liberty Counsel's Matt Barber performed a mash-up of classic protest hits "HRC's harmful agenda toward kids" and "HRC and the IRS."

Ready to welcome the luminaries, HRC placed a sign in front of their headquarters reading "Welcome Peter" in honor of Mr. LaBarbera.

A wrap-up of the gathering was written by in a blog post by HRC's own Online Content and Marketing Manager, Maureen McCarty.

"Mahatma Gandhi once said, 'First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win.' The sign placed by the Human Rights Campaign in front of their headquarters in Washington, D.C. yesterday is proof that HRC is well into turning the 'ridicule' stage on its end," wrote McCarty.
