UPDATE: Wyoming House Committee Defeats Gay Marriage Bill

UPDATE 1/28/13 4:15PM: The Wyoming House Corporations Committee rejected a bill to legalize gay marriage, with a close 5-4 vote. Think Progress writes that "testimony against the bill included threats that gays are pedophiles and that same-sex activity damages colons." The committee is still considering a bill to create domestic partnerships.

Gay marriage, domestic partnerships, and nondiscrimination bills have been introduced in Wyoming's state legislature and are set to go up for a vote as early as Jan. 28.

The House of Corporations Committee would hear the marriage equality and domestic partnership bills on Jan. 28. If one or both of the bills are approved by the committee, they would go up for a vote in the state's House of Representatives within days, according to the National Center for Lesbian Rights.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to hear testimony on the nondiscrimination bill on Jan. 30.

NCLR is working with the Human Rights Campaign, and Wyoming Equality in the effort to get the legislation passed. According to NCLR votes for the bills are expected to be "extremely close."
