Former gay adult actor Ryan Idol has been sentenced to 12 years in state prison for attempting to murder his former girlfriend, the Sacramento Bee reported.
On Sept. 5, 2009, Idol, whose real name is Marc Anthony Donais, tried to murder his ex by smashing her head with a toilet tank lid. Last September, the porn star was convicted of the attempted murder.
Idol, 46, became an extremely popular gay porn star in the 90s and then later made appearances in mainstream theatre. He debuted in gay porn film, "Idol Eyes" and starred in several other gay adult movies during the next six years. He also starred in the 2007 revival of Terrence McNally's "The Ritz" on Broadway.
According to the testimony, Idol's ex-girlfriend, whose name has not been released because she is a domestic violence victim, decided to end their relationship after she caught him having sex with his male lover. When the porn star entered her West Sacramento apartment he said, "I came over to kill you."
Idol then rushed into the bathroom while she was taking a bath and began to beat her with a porcelain toilet lid until "I felt blood gushing down my shoulders."
When asked about his sexual orientation, Idol has said, "I don't like to label myself.... I'd just like to say I'm a loving person. I can love a man and I can love a woman."
